Hey Clinkers! New contest! New rewards! As always, we’re excited to bring your hat design to life in the Clink store! We’re going to do this thing a little differently. We want the collaborations with you guys to be a more permanant fixture on Clink. That means we’ll be doing things a little differently. Here are the details…

How does it work?
You get to dream up your imaginary team name and design your own hat logo. Once your team story and hat design is perfected, simply email it to us!

As you can imagine, we receive a ton of great entries. We can’t post every entry, but we do review and consider each of them personally. Check the blog regularly to see if your entry is posted. It just might get drafted and turned into a real hat in the Clink store! Entries are drafted based on the best story, team name, and design. If drafted, we will contact you directly.

What’s the deadline?
There’s no deadline. We’re going to keep these design challenges rolling.

What do I receive if my hat design is drafted?
1. You’ll have your hat produced.
2. You’ll be celebrated on The Clink Room as a master of your craft.
3. You’ll receive $250 cash for every 144 hats we produce, and a hat for your portfolio.

What’s the design challenge?
We’re offering three design challenges for you to show off your creative skills. The Clink Kong franchise, the Shadow League, and the Reject League. Here’s what we’re looking for with each of the challenges…

ClinkKongFranchise

Design Challenge:
Design a hat logo for the Clink Kong franchise: Imagine Clink Kong is brand new professional sports franchise. What would his road hat look like? What would a sleeve patch look like? What would his throwback logos look like? What would the team wear on Halloween? Imagine the Clink Kong team had to wear a different hat logo for every game – what would they look like? What if they played a game on the beach? What if they played a game in the snow? What if they played a game inside the Museum of Modern Art?

Pro tips: Clink Kong is the patron saint of Clink. He’s always got a pencil with him, and he attacks his designs with the same tenacity that you do.

Design Challenge:
This League is about simplicity. Think of all the great retro logos that only use silhouettes and
shadows of creatures. We’ve had so many great Shadow League designs in Clink’s history. Just take a look at the three examples above!

With this concept, we’ve found that it helps to combine two different ideas into one. A “W” and a bat for the Walbats, a cobra and a heart for the Heartbreakers, and a seahorse and a devil for the Sea Devils. Think about how you can use embroidery to bring detail to a simple design. All of the above hat designs are silhouettes that are given their detail in embroidery.

Pro tips: The more clever the better. Don’t be afraid to get goofy. Don’t plagiarize. Don’t use the names of real teams, don’t copy existing designs. Keep it simple.

Design Challenge:
The Reject League is about rejected team names. It could be straight forward. For example, the “Sloths” probably wouldn’t be used for a real team, but it would make for an awesome logo. It could be absurd, like the “Speed Sloths.”

You may choose to use past Clink design challenges as your inspirational guide. The Taco Shop League team names were inspired by Clink’s love of all things taco shop (Clink’s hometown is San Diego). What about the Night League? Team names and designs celebrating everything that goes on after the sun goes down.

Pro tips: Name your team whatever sounds fun to you. The more clever the better! Don’t be afraid to get goofy. Don’t plagiarize. Don’t use the names of real teams. Don’t copy existing designs. Tell a great story becasue we love a great story – everyone does! So tell your team’s backstory. Show research, show sketches, and show inspiration to give your design context.

HowtoEnter

1. Use these design pro tips:
• Keep it simple. It has to be stitched small on a cap. No gradients.
• Use icons. It doesn’t have to be a full body of a bear to know it’s the bears.
• Keep it completely original. No use of existing designs.

2. Use the template provided:
This is very important. Adobe Illustrator is our preference, but we’ll try to work with you if you don’t know it. You will also find the thread and fabric color swatches for production. The colors appear differently on the computer than they do it real life, so just approximate.

• Use the templates.
• Keep your artwork in vector format.
• Export as an .AI or.PNG file.
