About This Design
The Bayside Beats is a throwback to my own school days in the late 80s/early 90s. The Beloit Snappers minor league team is looking to re-brand, and as a last-second challenge they threw out their "worst colorway" on Twitter and said, "make something out of this." Well, my day-glow green, blue, orange and pink windbreaker from high school said, "Hold my Faygo Red Pop!" First I drew the boom box, (originally built to look like a face) but it needed something else. I added the background shapes, which instantly triggered an earworm. I hummed the theme song from "Saved by the Bell" the rest of the time I worked on it. I imagine Mr. Belding having a bunch of these hats confiscated in his office. The colors gave me a "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" vibe too. They say fashion is cyclical, and here we are again with these colors coming back 30 years later. Beauty is truly in the eye of the Trapper Keeper. If you're wondering, I'm pretty sure either De La Soul or Young MC is in the tape deck.
