About This Design
Charon is a psychopomp, an entity responsible for guiding souls to their final resting places. His job isn’t to judge or decide the worthiness of the soul, but to simply safely guide them. The practice of leaving coins on the deceased’s eyes or near the mouth was to provide payment for the service. Those that can’t pay have to wander the banks of the River Styx for 100 years before they can make the crossing.
