About This Design
Heinz reached out a while back wondering if I could design a logo for the name “Ball Hawk.” The term could refer to basketball, football or baseball. For baseball, it would be someone who is a defensive stopper who always chases down the ball making it difficult for opposing teams to rack up hits. I immediately thought of the head of a red tailed hawk wearing large sunglasses that reflected the baseball it was eyeing down. I remembered as a kid getting baseball cards where the players had their own reflection in their lenses. These memories certainly inspired the logo. I tried to keep the design clean and simple so that the embroidery would really stand out. We thought the navy, brown, gold combination worked well with the red tailed hawk coloring and helped make it pop off of the hat.
