Spend time around any wetland area in most of North America, and you’ll see the male Red-winged Blackbird. They are impossible to miss with their intense, glossy black and the most striking red and yellow shoulder patches. And they are aggressive - constantly battling larger birds and dive-bombing humans. It’s hard to believe they don’t get more mascot love! The overhead view I used here also gives the appearance of some sort of elaborate mask, with the shoulder patches as eyes.
