The Great Sphinx of Giza is a limestone statue facing directly from west to east towards the rising sun. The Sphinx is the oldest known monumental sculpture in Egypt and one of the most recognizable statues in the world. Evidence suggests it was created during the Old Kingdom. There is a long history of speculation about hidden chambers beneath the Sphinx referred to as "Hall of Records."
